Roseau, Dominica: August 13, 2007 ----- Patrons to the 11TH Annual Dominica World Creole Music Festival will have the rare opportunity of experiencing a mix of top class reggae, Zouk, Kompas, Cadence, Bouyoun, African and other indigenous forms of world Creole music during a two week period of the festival which climaxes with the main event, “Three Nights of Pulsating Rhythms” between October 26th – 28th.
This year’s line-up for the festival’s main event will feature internationally acclaimed French West Indian band, Kassav, reggae dancehall superstar Beenie Man and African musical icon, Manu Dibango.
This year, the festival will include a full Programme of events running from October 4th, with a warm-up event dubbed “Creole Lyme which will be a weekly event to provide the public with a sampling of the budding Creole musical talents.
The two weeks of activities which is being coordinated by the Dominica Festivals Commission (DFC) with the support and involvement of a number of other stakeholders will also include a Soca/Bouyon event, ‘Who is the Boss’ on October 20th with headliners Tony Matterhorn of Jamaica with ‘Dutty Whine’ and Dominica’s hot Bouyon bands WCK and Triple Kay. Heritage Day 2008 will be held in the west coast village of Colihaut on October 21. Creole in the Park, a Cable & Wireless organized event will run from October 22-25 at the Botanical Gardens in Roseau. Miss Wob Dwiyet Competition will be held on Thursday October 25th, while Creole Day or Journee Kweyole will be on Friday 26th. Creole in the North will be held at the Cabrits National Park, just outside of Portsmouth on Sunday 28th October. Creole in the East will be held in Grand Fond on November 2nd. The cultural programme culminates with a grand Independence Day Cultural Gala at the Botanical Gardens on November 3rd.
The 11th Annual World Creole Music Festival will feature several other major headliners in what organizers say is the best ever festival line-up.
Night one will feature Haiti’s Top Vice, African musical icon, Manu Dibango, Kadans of Martinique, Jamaica’s dancehall star, Beenie Man and Triple Kay of Dominica.
Night Two will feature Haiti’s Skah Shah # 1, Soukous star Djunny Claude, reggae’s cool ruler Beres Hammond, Soca superstar, Sherwin Winchester and WCK of Dominica.
Night Three will feature Bamboolaz, Dominica’s singing sensation Michelle Henderson, Kassav, Dominica’s Midnight Groovers, and Cadence-lypso great, Jeff Joseph and the Grammacks International.
The World Creole Music Festival which started in Dominica in 1997 is the biggest and largest gathering of Creole music and musicians and features a wide variety of the indigenous music of the Creole-speaking Antilles, African musical idioms and other popular forms of indigenous music from the Caribbean, and around the world.
